Wedding in Kerala

Like the traditional Indian belief Keralites also believe in - 'Marriages are made in heaven and celebrated on earth'. So wedding procedure starts there with the exchange of Horoscope of boy and girl. If everything matches then the parents of both the families finalize an auspicious day with the suggestion of the astrologer. And after that the preparation starts.

The day before the wedding both bride and groom seek blessings from their elders and dine with them in their respective houses. They dine with traditional five course vegetarian meal with her family. It is really a very enjoyable occasion.
On the day of the wedding the groom goes to the brides house and before going to the wedding venue he visits temple to seek blessings from the almighty. Marriages takes place on the day time. As soon as the groom reaches on the venue the bride's father washes the brides feet and welcome him. Then the bride gives him a white sari which the bride has to wear for the nuptial. The groom wears the traditional dhoti and angavastram.

The nuptial ceremony takes place before the agni or fire. Then the bride's father does the ritual of Kanyadan by giving brides hand to the groom's hand. There are other symbolical rituals which are performed during that time.

After the wedding, a feast is organised to taste the finest delicacies. Then comes the most emotional time of vidai, which takes place at a appointed time. The bride takes blessings of everyone before leaving the house.

Then there is the moment of joy and excitement, the bride comes to the in-laws -house. Then Grihaprabesh is performed to welcome the new bride. Everybody wishes the newly married couple for their bright future. The bride enters her new home with a lamp in her hand and Ganapati puja is performed. After that the bride boils milk in the kitchen to herald her inclusion in the new family.
